When some people hear the word “healthy” they immediately think grilled chicken, kale, and room temperature water. It doesn’t have to be like that! Plus, starting something new can be intimidating; especially when you aren’t even sure where to start! All you know is that you want to make a change, and you need a place to start.
I’ve also learned, a lot of times people think that a ‘new improved you’ (whatever the heck that means) means that you have to lose weight. Something to keep in mind is that losing weight is not something everyone needs to do to be healthier! Everybody has different needs and there never has been and never will be a”one size fits all”. I hate that saying! There’s no such thing as one size fits all. Because if there was, then it means we’d all look the same, act the same and be the same. What kind of fun would that be? No fun in my opinion.
Ready to take the first step? The first step is the hardest! I’ll help you make the first 3 steps! Here we go…
Make the Decision for a healthy you!
The first step in this process is making the decision that you want to make a change! Here’s the deal, nobody is perfect and to think otherwise is dangerous to YOUR progress.
This life changing decision is about you and your loved ones. Here are two reasons why it is dangerous to compare yourself to others on Social Media, magazines, and the like:
1. They have different lives, goals, bodies, and minds than you do! (not to mention filters and airbrushing) You are YOU and be proud of your brand. Believe it or not, you have a brand and the best thing about having a brand is that you get to decide what it is and what it says about you.
2. Your family needs you. If you’re struggling to stay awake, irritable, or can’t keep up physically to play with them, then you aren’t your best version of you!
Set 2 Goals
Setting goals is HUGE when it comes to starting your new healthy lifestyle. The first two goals need to be set around physical activity and the foods you eat.
Remember to set realistic goals for yourself and set a time frame. Realistic goals look something like this – if you’re going to the gym once a week now, and you want to make progress quicker, start going 3 times a week. OR if you aren’t exercising at all, start with 30 minutes of walking 3-4 days a week and work your way up from there. OR find a hobby that keeps you active!
As you can probably tell, my passion is running. However, yours maybe racquetball or getting involved in a city league sports team. Remember! There is no such thing as a once size fits all. Not sure what your passion is? You can read my post Planning your Workouts 101 to give you some ideas!
Your goals act as your compass. They guide you in what steps to take next on your journey.
You’ve now set your first goal. Congratulations! Can’t you just hear the crowds cheering? It’s now time to set your second goal which is centered around the foods you eat and lucky for us, it actually rolls right into the third step.
Eat Real Food!
Abs are made in the kitchen and not the gym! You may not be going for flat or 6 pack abs, but the point is still the same. Either way, if you want to start feeling good, be fit, and live the lifestyle you’ve wanted, it all starts in the kitchen. Because food = fuel and bad fuel puts out bad energy!
Old saying “garbage in, garbage out” is absolutely the truth. If you put garbage in your body then the output of your body will be garbage! Translation – eat good foods and you’ll feel better, sleep better, have more energy, etc.
How do you start doing that? Start with meats (that don’t have added hormones), fruits and vegetables. Try new recipes!
